Extend
Lengthens an open-ended line or curve
Table of Contents
At a Glance
Lengthens an open-ended line or curve so its loose end reaches out to meet another shape. Move the cursor near the open end and a preview shows how far it would extend; by default it stops at the nearest shape in its path.
Parameters
No on-screen options panel — it's operated entirely by hovering and clicking, with Shift changing its behavior.
Overview
Lengthens an open-ended line or curve so its loose end reaches out to meet another shape. Move the cursor near the open end and a preview shows how far it would extend; by default it stops at the nearest shape in its path. Holding Shift switches to a free mode that extends to wherever you click instead. A curved end can continue as a matching arc or straighten into a line, depending on preferences.
Using Extend
Move the cursor near the open end of the shape you want to lengthen (a live preview shows how far it will extend), then click to commit. Hold Shift to extend freely to the cursor position instead.
Extending to a Boundary or a Point
Normally, Extend lengthens the selected open end until it reaches the nearest shape in its path. Move near an open end to preview the extension before clicking.
Hold Shift to extend freely to the clicked cursor position instead of stopping at another shape.
For a curved open end, the continuation may remain curved or transition to a straight line according to the applicable program preference.
Result
The open end of the shape is lengthened up to the point found, joining smoothly with the rest of the shape.
