Extend Tool
Extend open contours to real and perceived boundaries
Parameters
The Extend Tool does not use adjustable parameters. It automatically extends open contours to real or apparent intersections based on cursor placement.
Shortcuts
- Hover: Shows a preview of the extension with visual indicators.
- Left Click: Confirms and creates the extension to the intersection.
How to Use the Extend Tool
-
Activate the Tool
Click the Extend icon to enable the tool. The cursor changes to indicate you are in extend mode. -
Preview an Extension
- Hover over the end of an open contour.
- An orange highlight will appear, showing the extension path to the nearest boundary.
-
Real Intersection
- When hovering over a valid extension that intersects with an existing contour, a solid preview shows where the extension will terminate.
- Left-click to create the extension segment.
-
Apparent Intersection
- If the extension intersects with the projected path of another contour (not yet present), a dotted line appears showing an apparent intersection.
- Left-click to create the extension even if the intersecting geometry isn't yet drawn.
-
Complete the Shape
- Repeat the process for other open ends.
- Use the Join Tool afterward if needed to connect extended ends into a closed contour.
The Extend Tool is especially useful for closing gaps and snapping open contours to logical intersections, whether exact or implied.
