Polygon / Star
Draws a regular polygon or a star shape
Table of Contents
At a Glance
Draws a regular polygon (an evenly-sided shape such as a pentagon or hexagon) or a star shape, centered wherever you position it. The shape follows the cursor as you move the mouse and is placed the moment you click, so you can drop several in a row.
Parameters
| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
| Type (Polygon / Star) | Switches between a plain regular polygon or a pointed star shape. |
| Outer Radius | The distance from the center to the outer points of the shape. |
| Center | The exact position of the shape's center; typing a value locks the shape so the mouse no longer moves it. |
| Points | The number of sides (polygon) or outer points (star). |
| Standard Star | When on, builds the star from a preset standard pattern instead of a custom point count and inner radius. |
| Standard pattern | A dropdown of preset star patterns (e.g. 5/2, 6/2, 8/3) that sets the point count and inner radius together. |
| Inner Radius | The distance from the center to the inward points of the star, when Standard Star is off. |
| Apply / Close | Apply places the shape; Close cancels without placing anything. |
Overview
Draws a regular polygon (an evenly-sided shape such as a pentagon or hexagon) or a star shape, centered wherever you position it. The shape follows the cursor as you move the mouse and is placed the moment you click, so you can drop several in a row. Typing an exact center position into the Center field "locks" the shape in place so moving the mouse no longer relocates it.
Using Polygon / Star
This is a single-step, direct-manipulation tool: the outline follows the cursor as you move it (or stays put if you've typed a center position), and clicking in the drawing places the shape at its current position and size.
Polygon and Star Modes
In Polygon mode, Points sets the number of equal sides. In Star mode, it sets the number of outer points.
With Standard Star enabled, choose one of the preset star patterns. With it disabled, Inner Radius controls how far the inward points sit from the center, allowing a custom star shape.
The preview follows the cursor until a center coordinate is entered. Typing the Center locks the preview at that location. After a shape is placed, the tool remains active so another polygon or star can be placed.
Result
A new closed polygon or star-shaped outline added to the drawing at the chosen center, size, and point count. After placing one, the tool is ready to place another.
